Full Version: If I just rip an aftermarket alarm off my car, am I going to have problems?

My beater car has an aftermarket alarm that's been on it since before I bought the car. Lately the alarm has somehow been "freaking out" and making it so I can't start the car. The first time it did it, I just disconnected the battery and the car started right away after reconnecting the battery. But this last time, disconnecting the battery didn't work right away. I had to disconnect and reconnect the battery probably 15 times before the car finally started, the other 14 times when I turned the key I just heard relays clicking really fast, but the starter wouldn't engage. I'm tired of this shit. I was about to rip the shit physically out of the car (I've been fucking around it for about a half hour now) but I figured I'd better make sure the car is not going to get stuck in some stupid perpetual no-start mode before I do - I don't think it will, but I want to make absolutely certain.

First you should try just unpluging it and see if it efects anything then go from there.

it's not too bad of a job. like Rev said, try unpluggin it first. more than likely it has a starter kill relay in line with the starter wire. pull the underdash panel down locate the starter wire which should be a 10ga. BLACK W/ YELLOW STRIPE OR BLACK W/ WHITE STRIPE. you'll see this wire is disconnected and 2 other wire have been connected to it. simply cut off both of the alarms wires and reconnect the starter wire together, bringing it back to original working order. after that's done then just leave the main alarm unit unplugged or pull it's fuses.
