Cruising along the highway, cruise set at 80, smoke wafting lazily from the end of my cigarette as Phil Collins bellows from the speakers. Another day of work in the books, and it's friday for me. Along side me pulls a subtle looking red car. As I peer over, I see an older gentleman in a late 90s Caddy STS...you know, the good looking one. He's peering at my car with a big goofy grin, pulling forward and dropping back. It's apparent that the driver of this luxo-cruiser wants a go at the mighty bull.

Not being one to disappoint, I drop 4th gear and hold the revs. He grins so big I thought the top of his head might fall off and tumble into the back seat. He pins it and the big Caddy lurches forward. I put mine on the floor, allowing him the pleasure of putting a fender width between his rear bumper and mine....till about 100 when mine starts pouring on the steam. I slowly reel in the big expensive beastie, and by 125, the Yamaha is starting to really make some noise as I enter the strong end of the power band and scoot on by. The speedo dances on 140 and I shut down, a full car length ahead and pulling. I was rather impressed with the old guy. He had balls keeping up.

Less than 5 miles later, I had exited the highway and was crusing down a 4 lane stretch of highway that I live on. Pulled up to a light and was sitting, throw out bearing making all sorts of racket like it has been for the last year when a cute lil yellow roadster pulls up next to me. This time, it's some sideways-hat wearing thuggish lookin white boy. Read into the car a little more to find it's a Solistice. Oh goody. I've been wanting to get ahold of one of these lil puppies since their introduction.

Opposing light turns yellow, revs rise to 2200rpm. Clutch in. Opposing light red...3 second delay...our light goes green. Clutch out, loud pedal to the floor and the SHO launches with authority and just enough wheelspin to not bog. It's one of the best launches I've ever experienced in a front wheel drive car on the street. The red and black Bull darts forward, leaving the screaming yellow banana a full car back. but what's this? The lil playtoy's inching up on me as I take forever to shift to 2nd. Could it be a GXP? Better stop playing around. Pound the car into 2nd with a shuddering crunch (thanks to a dying TOB and clutch) and am greeted with wheelspin from some of the sand on the road at that spot. Yellow fills my periphrial vision on my right. Put a little more pressure on the long skinny pedal on the right in a meager attempt to push it through the floor, and i'm barely able to fend of this lil whippersnapper through 2nd. Pound the shifter into the Jesus gear and hold on for dear life, cuz if he hangs with me, it's all over and I gotta claim a loss to something that looks like a mishappen Matchbox car from my youth. Nope. 3rd gear saves the day again as I pull a fender on the crackerjack toy by the top of 3rd. Top of 3rd gear is waaaaaaaaay too fast for the road we're on...especially with a 45mph curve looming. I dive for the binders and let him fly by, considering 3 feet between his headlights and my taillights a win. He slowed down, waved, and motored off as i settle back down to 5th at the speed limit. As he accelerates away from me, I see dual exhaust and a GXP badge. Holy hell, I just beat a turbo solistice...:oogle:...this kid can't drive worth a damn, unless the 98mph trap speeds I'm pulling with crappy traction at the local drag strip are right.

About 4 miles up the road, I'm almost home. A familiar red shape pulls out of a parking lot behind me and creeps up on me at a rather good clip. Turns out my buddy with the 3000GT that i made a kill story about around a month ago wants a rematch. He pulls up next to me, his engine revving to high heaven as he tries to goad me into burning more expensive petrol at high volumes. Eh, why not?

Drop 2nd at 40mph and smile as the trunk of my car droops a couple of inches from the mighty 220 galloping ponies under the hood. Mitsuboy quickly falls behind as he was about 300rpm away from redline and had to shift right away. Snag 3rd and run up to about 95, where I shut down...a full 3 car lengths ahead of the goofy grinned tool. He does a wonderful flyby in a pathetic display of rice just as I downshift to pull in my driveway.

...and this is what happens in michigan when we have clear roads after a week's worth of snow and ice. Enjoy!

Nice write up store. Nice kill on the GXP!

Finally, an new kill story, and one worth reading too! I haven't had any worth writing about myself.

Pretty impressive 'Toonz!

Hate to say it but I love the unique styling of the GXP's.

I see you mention trap speed but what have been your previous ET's in the SHO?
94lt1z
very nice kills, props on the pontiac

T3HGREENE
showtonz needs to write the new fast and furious lol
Skinfaxi
How much power does your car put out?
ShoToonz
huh.gif Wow....that kid in the GXP REALLY couldn't drive, could he? He shoulda at least been able to stay even....

The best i've run at Martin was a very traction limited 15.49@98mph....nuff said.

No idea...never dyno'd it, and I hate bench dynos.
Scort00
And that is why Sho doesn't need a time out aka 7 day off. Nice story, good kills.
Teej
Maybe the GXP owner didnt know you were racing?

I dunno, no one ever races me in the STi, so I cant see a bunch of people challenging a taurus.
Introverted
i call shens on the gxp
whiteego
dont call it a taurus.
jErk
*hides in the trenches*

shits 'bout to go down
ShoToonz
Judging by the wheelspin on the launch, dude in the GXP knew we was racing. Like I said...I just don't think he knew how to drive. Maybe it was just a fluke. I dunno. All I know is that I somehow managed to beat him.

Call it what you want. It's a Taurus. I know it's a Taurus. But it gets the job done. It's not the fastest car in the world (in fact, probably one of the slower cars on this forum), but it does what I ask it to.
Teej
Im not raggin your ride. Its just, I read a lot of street racing shit on here, and I guess I dont have a giant sticker on the back that says "race me", since I figured the 3 foot wing would suffice, but I never am challenged. Not that Im complaining, because I wouldnt risk that ticket to embarrass a Civic, but still.

Oh I can imagine he gets challenges. The SHO's a sleeper. It has a beatable look. I get a lot more action in my 86 Chevy pickup, because people are basically wimps and only like to pick on things they think they can beat. Difference here is I lose almost every race I get into with my Chevy. I rarely get challenged in my Neon and then only by know nothing Cowboys who just got a chip for thier Ford Super Duty. Car drivers rarely ever mess with me.
ShoToonz
Exactly. I mean, everyone knows the kind of damage an STi can inflict on your average rust pile. I know, as well. I've picked a few fights with em, just for shits and giggles. Ask around..I'll race anything on 4 wheels, and more than a few things on two. Some cars I run just to see if the owner's actually gonna use his car or if he/she's a pussy. I used to deliver to a guy out off angling who had a silver STi with about 20k on the clock that still had the nipples on the outsides of the tires cuz he babied the poor car. I beleive that if you buy a car like that, you drive it like it's meant to be driven.

...that and hard AWD launches get me wet.
Richard
yea...you will race anything....like a tempo................
ShoToonz
yeah, fuck you and you getting me pulled over....

you missed me racin a festiva the other day. he put up a fight...till I got off the dirt and stopped spinning my tires.

see? I don't post ALL my kills. Just the amusing ones.

Maybe I'll start posting my losses.

That your time you got pulled over leaving Steak and Shake?
ShoToonz
That'd be the one.

BPH'd be more than happy to tell you I'll race anything. Hell, I raced his old minivan in my 98 SHO after I first bought it. True, the secondaries weren't opening and it still had the stock exhaust and air filter in it, but I still wasn't able to pull on him.
Teej
Off of Angling? I think thats where irishman lives. Hope your not calling the owner of the fastest STi in town a pussy.
jErk
irishman got beat by a pizza delivery car.

im telling everybody. pussy.

Maybe I should start driving like SHOTOONZ. I rarely got anyone to try and race me this year in my grandpa car. My car looks slower than even the SHO
ShoToonz
Is Irishman old and is his car silver?

c'mon, buffman...drive it like it's stolen!

I remember that. That was one of two kills in the minivan cool.gif . Alot better than my current scort.

he's old for this site, like me. and yes his car is silver. yes it's quick.

here's his car easily staying with me (probably faster) before some of the mods he has now.

Somehow, I doubt it's the same guy. The guy I'm referring to is in his mid 40s....MUCH older than you or I.

Even if it does go over, rest assured it is reinforced to keep the roof from collapsing. smile.gif
