Ok so I changed the fuel pump, truck started right up. Turned off. Started again and moved it let it sit, then moved again and it stalled...Tried to start it again, sprayed starter fluid in the TB and nothing...

You can hear the fuel pump running so I have no clue whats wrong...Any ideas?
SpoolinSol
check spark.
check fuel at the rail.
SuperSick
Make sure you don't have the lines hooked up wrong on the fuel pump.

true. it may of only started before running on gas that was already in the lines/rail, and now it's not getting any fuel.

again; check for fuel at the rail (plugs may tell you if there is fuel too)

If you sprayed starting fluid in the intake and go nothing, it's obviously a spark problem. Check your ignition module, as I bet that was your problem all along.

Checked at the coil, I have spark...Sorry forgot to mention that. AND the fuel pump was bad...the old one wouldn't run at all...
SuperSick
Check for spark at the plugs, not just the coil. You could have a bad wire(s) or multiple bad plugs.

+1

Broken wire(s) or fouled plug(s).

Pulled one of the plugs, black as ever...Ill go get some plugs and see how that goes
mycarslow4u
Psh I give up...spark plug wires are melted to the spark plugs

a pick/screwdriver and a shop vac. you'll get it wink.gif

i had to do the same think on my car earlier this year. which reminds me i should probably get new plug wires, the ends of mine are all fucked up, haha
mycarslow4u
I tried a screw driver, side cutters and needle nose pliers...After 15 minutes I just gave up, after being out in the cold all day yesterday doing the pump Im burned out for a couple days...Maybe I can convince my dad to do it...

*edit (read the fuel pump thread)

Knowing this is a chevy engine...and it's either a 2.8 or a 4.3, I know that the plugs aren't recessed into the head like they would be on an overhead cam engine. I say just get in there with an extension and a hammer, tap the socket on and yank them puppies out. You shouldn't have to worry about hardened plastic falling into the combustion chamber, since there isn't much of a lip there.
mycarslow4u
Yeah its a 4.3...I'll give it a try after christmas, I just need a break from vehicles...
mycarslow4u
Changed plugs, ran for 5 minutes then died...Pulled off dist cap and looks pretty warn out...ran for another 2 minutes died...So im thinking new cap and rotor and hopefully...if not maybe the fuel filter is clogged?
Ahole
sounds to me like your catalytic converter is plugged up
office888
Sounds like your truck needed a full tune up!

No cat

my first thing would be if you have acess to a fuel pressure gauge hook it up and see what kind of fuel pressure you are getting while it is running and just before it dies....see if it drops off............

*edit* do this if a cap and rotor do not solve your problem.

I know the great shop in town its called K.M.R. you may have heard of it? smile.gif The best Part they pay you to fix the problem.

Took it to a shop, they found that the fuel pump wiring harness is all hacked up and hard wired or something...So I dont know what Im gonna do yet...

sounds like your gonna have to re-wire it. not very hard
mycarslow4u
Yea but I don't see why it shouldn't work...The old pump worked fine on the way it was wired until the pump took a dump...Why wont the new pump run the same?

does the new pump prime? try checking voltage/amperage at the pump
mycarslow4u
Yeah it primes...But I dont know if it keeps running after I go down the road

lol my buddie when I was in 9th grade sprayed about 8oz of starter fluid in his carb trying to start his dirtbike. Funniest shit Ive seen in my life. All of a sudden the motor started, massive rpm and it shot huge flames out the exhaust.
mycarslow4u
Found the problem I think...Pump harness is in 2 pieces... tongue.gif
mycarslow4u
Well she runs, still a little rough though, I'm gonna pull the plugs tomorrow and make sure none of them fouled out...Hopefully thats the issue. Just glad that its running again.
mycarslow4u
So now it has a stutter...It drives fine when you are feathering the gas pedal but when you try to accelerate it shakes like crazy...Sounds like its missing...I pulled all the plugs made sure they were gaped and they were all fine, firing order is correct...So I have no clue. I also had the fuel filter changed and it made no difference
office888
Double check firing order.
Check for vacuum leaks.

Sounds like it's getting shitty combustion at throttle, maybe from a rich mixture?

-Richard-
mycarslow4u
Yea I found out last week that the second cylinder wasn't firing, put a new plug in and had to replace the cap and rotor again cuz the rotor hadn't seated well enough on the distributor because of rust. Runs like a champ.
