Holy crap!

Phosgene gas is a WMD!

I think he was using Chlorinated brake cleaner, as a wiki about phosgene specifically mentioned the posibilty of creating phosgene gas if a chlorinated cleaning compound was used in combination with arc welding.

I stick to the non-chlorinated stuff, it tends to work better anyways.

Fucks sake that's crazy, I've welded through brake parts cleaner about a thousand times before. I'm gonna have to read up on the stuff I use to make sure I don't kill myself.

Thanks for the info!!!! checkit.gif

Yeah, usually I'm less than stellar about safety.

But fluid buildup in your BRAIN? That's not optimum. You can't put a band-aid over it.

I used too much brake clean to clean off some parts one time and ended up giving myself a sore throat from inhaling the fumes. Ever since then I am very cautious with this stuff. My dad still uses it to clean everything.
I've switche to using products like simple green whenever I can because of stories like this and my own personal experience.

its crazy because i could see something like that happening to my old boss at the shop... i will literaly walk into the middle room thats no larger than a school hallway thats about 25 ft long, and he'll be sanding with a grinder paint off something, or something of that sort, all the dust flying everywhere... okay hes holding his breath.... nope, u can clearly see hes breathing.

iv smoked some brake fluid before from heating it up... i was lucky it as unclorinated and didnt directly inhale it i guess! wow... im going to be alot more cautious from now on for sure...

After the 55 gallon drums of chemicals like this I have used in my career, I know I'm lucky.

Good post.
